Faster Internet access on the move
3G/HSPA
3G/HSPA provides higher speed mobile Internet access than the
existing 2G (GSM) or 2.5G (GPRS) mobile network as well as video
calling and delivers the same services, phone calls text and
multimedia messages.
Note though, that video calls can only be made between two Manx
Telecom 3G handsets.
3G/HSPA Coverage
We've increased the number of our 3G sites providing Island-wide
coverage with indoor reception. What's more our network has been
improved to support the new High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) speeds
of up to 7.2Mbps downstream and up to 1.4Mbps upstream.
A 3G handset will display a 3G icon indicating when you are
connected. If you are out of 3G coverage you will automatically be
transferred to the 2G or 2.5G networks so you will still be able to
make calls, send messages and access the Internet.
As long as you have a 3G/HSPA device you will achieve
the higher speeds automatically. If you are using a Pay As
You Go mobile you will be restricted to ordinary http web browsing
at the moment.
Accessing the internet is easy and a lot of popular websites now
have sites geared to mobile users.
