Its Our Community
We are all fortunate to live in a place like the Isle of Man
where there remains a real sense of community. But we are all
equally aware that there are things that could make it even better.
If there was one small thing you could do to make your community a
better place, what would it be?
In 2008, Manx Telecom launched an It's Our Community
initiative, donating over £5,000 to worthwhile causes.
Manx Telecom and Manx Tails have teamed up again to promote
‘It’s Our Community’ for 2010. It’s hoped that we can inspire you
all to make a positive change to the community in which we live.
Manx Telecom has provided generous funding which it’s hoped will be
the catalyst for a host of community initiatives. If you or your
organisation has an idea about how to improve your community that
will produce tangible results we want to hear from you. Our judging
panel will be looking for ideas that demonstrate innovation and
fresh, bold thinking.
You can apply for an award of anything between £100 and £1,000
to help fund your particular project. We’ve established three main
categories but all suggestions are welcome.
Community Places
– Improving the places communities share by revitalising and
reinvigorating them. Maybe you need new swings for your local
playground or a lick of paint for your community centre. The scope
is endless – we’ll leave the ideas up to you.
Community Pride
– How many times do we hear these days that people are losing
the sense of pride in their communities? Well we welcome any ideas
that tackle this problem head on. What changes can you suggest to
help restore pride in your community? Once again we are confident
there are many initiatives that could help turn the tide of
complacency. Maybe a litter pick or the tidying up of a civic space
or historic building, or an event to bring people together? We
expect a deluge of applications on this one!
Community Landscape
– The Island’s local authorities already allocate time and funds
to improve our local environment, but there are limits to how much
they can do. Improving your community’s natural environment through
the implementation of tree-planting schemes, the creation of
community gardens or simply the maintenance and preservation of
areas of natural beauty could all fall within the scope of an ‘It’s
Our Community’ Award.
Whatever initiative you have in mind to help your community why
not apply today?
Closing Date for Applications
The closing date for all applications is 30th September
2010. No awards will be made before that date.
