Playing our Part
Manx Telecom has prided itself on playing a part in our local
community and looking after our island for the last twenty
years…
As a fully integrated telecommunications company, providing mobile, fixed and internet communications for the Isle of Man, we have the opportunity to make a difference to our community in a number of ways.
Chris Hall - Managing Director
Looking after our customers
- All our infrastructure, engineers and support services are
based on the Isle of Man and we offer free help and support for our
customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all our fixed,
mobile and Internet services.
- Our operators answer 999 emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week, screening the accidental and hoax calls, to save time and
resources in the Emergency Services Joint Control Room. During a
typical year, our operators will answer over 30,000 calls, of which
less than 13,000 will require an emergency response.
- Our Customer Services team answers calls from customers who are
experiencing nuisance calls or texts. We can support and advise
customers in these situations, working with the police where
necessary.
- In order that as many people as possible can be connected to
friends and family, we offer a Low User tariff, with a very low
line rental, for fixed line customers who make very few calls.
Mobile customers who want a phone just for emergency use can run a
prepay mobile, just by making one short phone call every six months
to keep their number active.
- We provide public payphones around the Island, according to the
principles and criteria agreed with the Isle of Man Communications
Commission, even though many are unprofitable.
Playing our part
“Our community investment activities cover a wide range of
organisations and charities, with a special focus on projects
related to young people using communications technology and taking
part in sporting activities,” Chris Hall, Managing Director.
Our Compliment Scheme allows local charities to benefit from a
donation when customers contact us to pay tribute to a member of
staff who has given them especially good service.
- A number of key staff have been given time to help local
charities and organisations, including: local secondary schools, as
advisors/mentors; Isle of Man Business School; Isle of Man College;
local primary schools as governors; local commissioners and Isle of
Man Hospice.
- We support the Crimestoppers initiative on the island and are
represented on its board. We are also promoting Internet usage
among older people through support for the Help the Aged drop-in
internet centres.
