Next Generation Network

The communications industry is currently going through one of the most momentous changes in its history. In the not-too-distant future we’ll all be able to enjoy our communications and entertainment via one seamless network, making everything simpler, faster, more accessible and affordable.

NGN and Manx Telecom

NGN, the Next Generation Network, is the name given to Manx Telecom’s £25 million programme of converging mobile, broadband and fixed line services onto a secure, resilient IP-based network. This is one of the biggest technology investments the Isle of Man has ever seen.

Manx Telecom is entering the final stages of this project with the change-over of existing fixed line telephone exchange equipment to the NGN.

This work will be phased, by exchange area, throughout 2010 and 2011. Specific exchange change-over information will be communicated in the local press and via this site when dates are confirmed.

Every effort will be made to make the transition to the new network as seamless as possible for all our customers and extensive testing will be part of the migration plan.

How will NGN affect me?

We would encourage business customers using third party supplied telecom equipment that currently connects to the fixed line network, to contact their suppliers for confirmation that this equipment will be compatible with an IP based network. If your supplier is unable to help, please contact Manx Telecom using the email address below, providing details of the equipment in use.

Customers who have had their line migrated to the Next Generation Network will be sent a new Star Services guide, this new guide can also be found here: http://www.manxtelecom.com/personal/home-phone/services/star-services.aspx
