Parish Walk Timing

Having introduced a state-of-the-art electronic timing and text messaging system for the 2007 Parish Walk, Manx Telecom has continually improved the features allowing supporters to track their walker with ease throughout the event.

The Manx Telecom Timing facility tracks the walker’s progress.  Each walker wears an electronic wristband which automatically clocks them in when they pass a docking station located at each of the 17 parish churches.  This information is then transferred immediately to Manx Telecom who will use their 3.5G wireless system of high speed data to transmit the details via text messaging to mobile phones or the web to PCs.

Past events have shown that most walkers have at least two supporters who provide them with drinks and food on the day.  This system allows them to easily track the progress of their walker, rather than having to follow them every step of the way.  It also goes a long way to easing the congestion on the roads as well.

In addition Manx Telecom provides a feature which allows supporters to see the progress of every competitor rather than just their own.  Simply by accessing www.mt.im/parishwalk on their mobile phone they are able to see the details of every walker, including where they are and the times at which they passed each parish church.

Manx Telecom is proud to be providing state-of-the-art technology to help actively support the Isle of Man and it’s community.
