Parental Controls - Installation Guide
This page contains a tutorial for installing your Netgear Live
Parental Controls. These instructions can be downloaded and printed
by opening the Parental Control Setup Guide document at the end of
this page.
- Insert the Netgear Resource CD in to your
computer's drive

- You may see the AutoPlay window. If so, click Run
autorun.exe

- When the Netgear Welcome window opens click Live
Parental Controls

- You may see an Internet Explorer security warning regarding
Active Content, we need to run this to configure the Parental
Controls so click Yes. For added security untick
the box 'Don't show this message again" so you will be warned if
another CD requires this.

- You will now see the opton to install the Parental Controls,
you can also take this opportunity to read through the Netgear
information on this screen if you wish. When you are ready click
Install Now.
- You may see a security warning regarding the file
ParentalControlSetup.exe. We need to run this file
to install the program so click Run.

- You may see another security warning asking if you want to run
the software, click run.
- If you are running a Windows computer you may have another
security warning asking you if you want to allow Netgear Parental
Controls to make changes to the computer. Click
Yes.

- You will now see the Welcome Screen of the Parental Controls
set up wizard. Click Install.

- The program will now install and you will see a window advising
that the program has been installed. With the Setup NETGEAR
Live Parental Controls box ticked, click
Finish.
- Next you may see a notice advising there is an update to the
program available from OpenDNS - this is safe to do so as OpenDNS
manages the Parental Controls program. Click Yes.
It is recommended that you install the latest version. If you
choose not to, or there are no updates available please skip
forward two steps.
- (Applicable only if updating the program) Save the install file
NEGEAR Management Utility.
- (Applicable only if updating the program) Next, browse to the
location of the file you have just downloaded and run it. You will
then go through a similar installation as detailed above.

- Once the program has installed Parental Controls will need to
check your router's Firmware, you will be asked to enter the
password you use to manage your router. By default, this is
password.

- You are now ready to set up Parental Controls. Click
Next.

- You will now see a Netgear disclaimer. Please read this
carefully and then click Next.

- Next you are asked if you already have an OpenDNS account. For
the purposes of this tutorial we will assume you do not, highlight
No, I need to create a free OpenDNS account and
click Next.

- You will need to enter the following details:
- Username
- Password
- Confirm Password
- Email
- Confirm Email
Once you have entered the required information click
Next.

- You are now asked to enter your router password, by default
this is password. Once this has been entered your
Parental Controls will be installed on your router.

- You are now asked to choose a Filtering Level for your network;
this is the level of security applied to your router.
Please choose the level appropriate for your home
network. These settings can be customised later.

- The setup of your router is now complete. Click Take me
to the status screen.
