Choosing the best router for you

Routers can operate in 2 frequency bands – 2.4GHz & 5GHz. 2.4GHz (known as wireless N) is better suited to situations where greater coverage through internal walls is required, however it does provide a lower throughput than 5GHz. 5GHz (known as wireless AC) frequency band provides a higher throughput ideal for HD/4K TV and gaming, but offers a shorter coverage area than 2.4GHz.

Any coverage blackspots can be improved by using our powerline/Wi-Fi extender kits, call in store for more information.

Your property type

Did you know that, depending on the frequency the wireless router uses, wifi coverage is determined by many factors such as thickness of internal walls, number of floors in the building and very importantly, interference from other devices such as:

Neighbouring wireless networks Multiple wireless networks setup within close range can cause mutual interference.
Cordless phones Some cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz frequency can cause interference.
Bluetooth devices Bluetooth devices transmit over a short range 2.4Ghz signal
Other wireless devices Many other devices, such as wireless keyboards and mice use the 2.4Ghz frequency
Microwave ovens Improperly shielded microwave ovens can emit 2.4Ghz frequency radio waves
