Switch off Data
The following guides explain how to switch data roaming off and how to stop your Smartphone from accessing data via any network.
- Switching off data while roaming will only work when you are outside the UK
- Wi-Fi will still work and may be the cheapest way to stay connected to the Internet for checking emails and accessing applications such as Facebook.
Switch off 'data when roaming’ (all iOS)
Select settings > General > Network > Select Data Roaming “OFF” **
** Please note, this feature will only work when you are outside of the UK. If you do not wish to incur data charges in the UK, you must switch off email accounts and remove the APN (Access Point Name).**
1) Go to settings
2) Select Cellular Data or Mobile
3) Turn CELLULAR DATA or MOBILE DATA off
DO NOT just turn off Data Roaming as this won't have an effect in the UK
Apple iPhone and Wi-Fi Assist
With Wi-Fi Assist, you can stay connected to the Internet even if you have a poor Wi-Fi connection. For example, if you're using Safari browser with a poor Wi-Fi connection and a webpage doesn't load, Wi-Fi Assist will activate and automatically switch to mobile data so that the webpage continues to load. You can use Wi-Fi Assist with most apps like Safari, Apple Music, Mail, Maps, and more.
When Wi-Fi Assist is activated, you'll see the mobile network icon in the status bar on your device.
Because you'll stay connected to the Internet over a mobile connection when you have poor Wi-Fi coverage, you might use more mobile data.
