Investment
Manx Telecom continues to drive forward the development of the
Island’s communications, ensuring that the Isle of Man possesses
the network and services that are key enablers for a prosperous

We have frequently pioneered communication technologies, and are
seen as leaders in converged networks and services.
Manx Telecom has invested more than £50 million over the last
five years in the development of a world-class communications
network, and is committed to making further significant investment
in the coming years.
Most recently, our investment in fibre deployment has ensured
100% broadband coverage to all lines on the Island, which currently
experiences higher average broadband speeds than the UK.
Our 3G/HSDPA network is also the most comprehensive on the
Island, offering speeds of up to 14.4 Mb/s.
We have invested over £25 million designing and building a Next
Generation Network (NGN) the digital backbone for the Island’s
future development. Based on Internet Protocol (IP), the NGN
enables Manx Telecom to offer its business and consumer customers
on the Isle of Man the ability to access and manipulate voice,
data, television, and video, on one seamless converged network –
the first community in the world to be able to do so.
Our Data Centre
Manx Telecom has made winning and retaining eBusiness a
priority, and has invested over £15 million in a purpose built Data
Centre which provides world class standards of data security, super
fast and highly resilient connectivity, plus expandable hosting
capacity. The only purpose built Data Centre on the Isle of Man;
our Douglas North facility can offer a variety of solutions, from
business continuity, simple co-location, fully managed outsourced
hosting platforms, to full eCommerce platforms for companies of any
size. The Data Centre’s clients currently include companies in a
wide variety of eBusiness sectors, including eGovernment, eFinance,
eMoney, eGaming, eMusic, and eTravel.
Connectivity
Unlike some other providers, we are not tied to a single
worldwide carrier; Manx Telecom uses two network carriers to
connect to both the UK and Ireland, via four diverse sub-sea cables
in order to provide a secure, diverse network with the capacity to
support all of our customers’ off-Island traffic. As part of
our ongoing investment, we are continuously upgrading this network
to support a greater range of services and higher bandwidths, plus
a greater number of points of interconnect.
Our network can supply all of our services via London, Dublin,
Manchester and Belfast and, through our Global Network Partners, we
can provide cost effective connectivity to any part of the world
with exemplary reliability and quality.
Our Internet offer is just as strong, with eight Tier 1 Transit
and Peering partners including LINX (London Internet Exchange),
AM-IEX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange) and DE-IEX (Frankfurt Internet
Exchange).
Protection against cyber attacks is also a priority. Manx
Telecom has designed, installed, and manages its own multi-layer
and multi-vendor hardware and software DDOS protection platform
which incorporates the latest technologies available from leading
suppliers such as Cisco Systems and Arbor Networks. All
traffic is monitored at the point where we connect to Tier 1
Providers; malicious traffic is filtered out automatically, while
genuine traffic is passed straight through to our customers.
DDOS protection is an integral part of our network service.
Our high capacity off-Island networks were initially designed to
deliver 99.999% “uptime” to customers. In fact, we have
achieved 100% availability of service since operations began in
2005.
A Growing Portfolio of Innovative Products & Services
Increasingly, we are leveraging our existing assets and
resources; principally our Data Centre capacity, our exemplary
connectivity, plus our NGN Network, to enable us to offer a new
wave of solutions to a growing portfolio of corporate customers
around the globe.
Currently, we have a groundbreaking MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network
Operator) partnership with O2 to offer international traveller
mobile services. In addition, Manx Telecom acts as a MVNA
(Mobile Virtual Network Aggregator) giving smaller niche MVNO
companies access to the O2 network.
We also support over 200k mobile users globally through channel
partners such as e-kit (http://www.ekit.com/) and deliver over
150M SMS messages a year globally via our messaging partner, TynTec
(http://www.tyntec.com/)
Our considerable experience of managing large networks through
our 24/7/365 Network Operations Centre, enables us to offer managed
network services to corporate customers around the
globe.

We have the largest pool of on-Island expertise and talent
including Mobile, IP, Storage Area Network Specialists, Security
Specialists, and Linux Specialists, VMware Specialists, and Data
Centre technical support engineers.

Manx Telecom’s on and off-Island networks are monitored by our
Network Operations Centre – the only facility of its kind on the
Island – which provides 24/7 365 days a year “real time”
monitoring.
Accreditations
Manx Telecom is accredited to ISO/IEC 27001, the only auditable
international standard which defines the requirements for an
Information Security Management System (ISMS) and one of the most
rigorous standards of its type anywhere in the world.
Manx Telecom’s ISO 27001 certification covers all of our Data
Centre service operations, managed service platforms, IP networks,
business systems provision, fixed and mobile networks, repair
services, access networks, strategic network development, power and
estate management.
Our Data Centre is the only facility of its kind on the
Isle of Man to hold this accreditation, which has been awarded to
only 363 companies in the UK.
We provide fully outsourced managed Data Centre platforms to a
range of customers which are required to be audited annually and be
compliant with PCI DSS (Payment card Industry Data Security
Standard); the world’s most advanced and most stringent security
standard for online payment processors. PCI DSS is the “gold
standard” for protecting customer account data.
Manx Telecom is a Cisco Premier Partner and has 15 employees
with over 40 individual Cisco Qualifications. This enables
Manx Telecom to deal with any networking query with ease.
We work with Neovia – a world leader in on-line payments for
customers in 160 countries. With a Manx Telecom built platform they
have the most successful prepaid card programs in the market,
allowing customers to spend safely at over 24 million MasterCard
locations, point of sale, ATM’s, and online.
