Last chance to enter Manx Telecom Parish Walk

Midnight on Sunday May 6th is the final deadline to enter this year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk. Walkers can choose to take part as individuals or sign-up for one of the two team categories: Corporate Team and Overall Team. For individual and team entries, the fee is £40 per person. Anyone who has already entered as an individual, but now wants to join a team, can do so by amending their entry online before the final deadline of midnight on May 6th.

The Corporate Team event is ideal for any business looking for a team building exercise, a challenge to raise money for the company’s nominated charity this year, or a goal that colleagues can aim for to get fit or become more active. It’s for teams of four walkers who must all be bone fide employees of the same Isle of Man based company. Teams may include no more than one person who has previously completed the full 85 mile course. The Overall Team category is for four walkers and cannot include more than two walkers who have previously completed the full Parish Walk. In both of the team competitions, the winners will be decided by the total aggregate distance covered by the four team members. In the event of a tie on mileage, the fastest aggregate time for the four walkers will determine the winners.

As always, all walkers taking part can use the automated texting service provided for free by Manx Telecom – the service sends text messages to two nominated mobile numbers with details of the time that the walker reaches each checkpoint from Santon (the second checkpoint) onwards. The service is great for walkers who want friends or relatives to get timing updates – and is especially useful for the support crews of walkers who are going further than the Peel checkpoint.

This year, Manx Timing Solutions will be providing the official event timing. Walkers will have a timing chip incorporated into their race number bib and their time will be automatically registered when they cross timing mats at each checkpoint. On race day, live updates will be available at with details of times for walkers arriving at every checkpoint, including the first one at Marown.

Manx Telecom has been the Parish Walk’s title sponsor since 2012, and last year extended its sponsorship to 2020. This year’s event starts at the NSC at 8am on Saturday June 23rd – as always, walkers aiming to complete the full distance have 24 hours to make it to the finish line near the war memorial on Douglas Promenade.
