• 10th February: Manx Telecom successfully floated on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange under the ticker MANX.

  • February: Manx Telecom, in partnership with the Conran Design Group, won a prestigious UK national honour for its new brand and identity refresh. The company was presented with a silver award in the Design Business Association (DBA) Design Effectiveness.  The company was also shortlisted for 'Best MVNO’ category at the inaugural Telecoms.com Industry Awards which were held to celebrate the wide-ranging achievements of the key players within the global communications industry. The shortlisting was for Manx Telecom’s ground-breaking Chameleon portfolio.

  • March: Greenhill Data Centre, our second tier 3 data centre, was officially opened.

  • 29th July: we launched the Island's first 4G mobile network for pay monthly customers.


  • From 1st January the IOM Government renewed contracts under the ConnectMan agreement for provision of mobile services, local area network infrastructure, fixed line, internet access and network services.

  • 5th January: our 4G mobile network was made available to PAYG customers

  • A new VDSL Plus service was launched on 2nd February which delivers the fastest fixed line broadband on the Island, with speeds of up to 80 Megabits per second (Mbps) download and up to 10Mbps upload.

  • 27th March: we won the the 'Best Telecommunications PLC’ category of the prestigious UK Stock Market Awards

  • Our “Strongest Signal SIM” was made available for direct sale to the UK for the first time under the new brand name Chameleon Direct.

  • 10th December: we won the ‘Best New Share Plan’ category at the ifs ProShare Annual Awards

  • 19th November we won an award for Best Use of Technology at Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence


  • We completed the migration of 50,000 fixed voice customers to a virtualized IMS core.

  • 18th April: we Joined Forces with Globalstar to develop the world’s first Integrated Cellular and Mobile Satellite Service

  • 24th May: we were first on Island operator to launch 4G roaming and a 4G Plus trial for our customers

  • 25th May: we won the Leadership Fixed Infrastructure Innovation Award for Leadership in Network Virtualisation at the Global Business Innovation Awards

  • 2nd December: we signed an agreement with China Unicom Global Limited (“CUG”), a subsidiary company owned by China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd, more commonly known as the China Unicom Group  to provide the connectivity to facilitate CUG’s ‘CUniq’ UK mobile and roaming product.


  • March: we announced the first two areas on the Island to take advantage of fibre optic cable directly supplied to the home or business. Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) service provides a number of download speed options all the way up to 1 Gigabit per second.

  • August: we launched a new online platform – called myMT – which makes it easy for customers to manage their accounts.  myMT replaced our My Account and eBill platforms.

  • September: we launched a global first in the field of mobile technology with MT clearSound – that can provide life-changing benefits for people with varying degrees of hearing loss. MT clearSound uses innovative mobile technology to create a personal profile tailored to an individual’s hearing ability, whether or not they have medically diagnosed hearing loss.

  • October: we brought the power of 5G to the Isle of Man for the first time.  Global technology giant Huawei was invited to bring its ‘5G Is Now’ roadshow to exhibit a select number of 5G business applications and demonstrate how it creates the opportunity for the Isle of Man to be a potential testbed for 5G innovation.
