Countdown nearly over to 2021 Manx Telecom Parish Walk

With just days to go until the 2021 Manx Telecom Parish Walk takes place (starting 8am Saturday 19th June), race organisers are reminding spectators and supporters of the facilities available to them as they track competitors and cheer on friends and families around the 85-mile course.

All walkers will be wearing timing strips on the front race number which means their progress can be followed online at www.mt.im/parishwalk2021. Each walker can also nominate two supporters to receive text messages which will be sent automatically when they reach designated checkpoints along the route. Please register your two supporters' mobile numbers before registration on parishwalk.com

There are additional road closures in place this year, details of which can be found on the website and on a special online Parish Walk map - route.parishwalk.com. In particular for 2021, the road from the Round Table to Dalby is one-way and there is a No Stopping Zone from Eary Cushlin to The Raggatt in Patrick. Spectators are being encouraged to gather at the specially created Fanzone at Knockaloe Farm on the site of the Royal Manx Agricultural Show.

Sponsored by Nedgroup Investment, the Fanzone will provide a family-friendly festival atmosphere with live streaming of the walkers coming through Glen Maye and checking in at Peel. As well as offering plenty of off-road parking, there will be food and drink available from local caterers and children’s entertainment provided by Victim Support. A free minibus shuttle service between the Fanzone and Albany Road in Peel will also be available.

The race will start on Saturday at 8am from the NSC athletics track and walkers will be waved off by nine-year-old champion fundraiser Dylan Walton.

As the lead sponsor for the event, Manx Telecom wishes all the participants well. Manx Telecom CEO Gary Lamb, himself a two times finisher, said: “A tremendous amount of work goes into putting on the Parish Walk and we would like to thank everyone who helps make this such a unique community event.

“The organisers go to great lengths to make the route as safe and enjoyable as possible for both participants and spectators. I am sure that new initiatives such as the Fanzone will be a big hit and, as usual, the live timing will enable supporters to follow competitors as they make their way around the island.

“We also know that as well as being a fantastic sporting occasion, many charities will benefit from the sponsorship of walkers and we’re extremely pleased to get the show back on road bigger and better than ever.”
